Private Francis Gratton

Battalion: 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of Francis and Hannah Gratton, of New Road, Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was a limestone quarryman prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France on 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 17th June 1916 aged 33, by German gas shelling of the trenches near Neuve-Eglise, Belgium.
