Born at Newark and lived at 86, Barnby Gate, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of William Henry and Annie Elizabeth Godfrey, of 41, Bowbridge Road, Newark. He was a maltsters clerk prior to enlisting 4th March 1910. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 24th April 1915, age 22, whilst serving in the line at Kemmel, Belgium.
Buried: Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium. Row E. Grave 80.
