Son of Hary Charles and Emily Gemima Godfrey, of 207 Banbury Road, Oxford. He was a brewers clerk prior to enlisting in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 18th April 1915. Killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
