British 1914 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn and lived at Nottingham. Son of William and Mary Ann Gilman, of 5, Pierrepont Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. He was a labourer prior to enlisting, 7th April 1902 at Newark, Nottinghamshire. He joined the Special Reserve 14th June 1908 and re-engaged 11th, December 1911. He went to France 11th November 1914 with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and suffered a scold to his right arm 1st January 1915. He was treated at 19, Field Ambulance and admitted to 3rd, Stationary Hospital, Rouen, France, 3rd January 1915. He was transferred to England aboard Hospital Ship Asturius, 5th January 1915. He returned to France 18th May 1915 suffered scabies, being transferred again to England, 7th April 1916. He returned to France 18th September 1916, posted to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and died of wounds 6th December 1916, aged 32.
