Born at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He lived at 628 Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Ann Gilbert, of 62, St. Thomas Street, Brampton. He was an Iron Worker prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. Went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, 29th September 1917, whilst Battalion was in reserve near Fouquieres, France.
