He was born at Rotherhide, Surrey and lived at Deptford, London. Son of Elizabeth Foster, of 55 Croft Street, Deptford. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 21st August 1914 at London. He went to France 30th August 1914 and was posted to No.2 Labour Company 3rd September 1914. He was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 27th October 1917 and was killed in action, 26th April 1918, whilst the battalion was in the line at Vlamertinghe, Belgium.
