Born at Glossop, Derbyshire and lived at New Mills, Derbyshire. Husband of Annie Longden (formerly Flint), of 16, Emily Street, Marple, Cheshire. He was employed at Birch Vale Calico Printing Works prior to enlisting at Buxton., Derbyshire. He went to France on 17th August 1915 and died, on 18th October 1915, aged 25, at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Siding, Belgium, from wounds received by German shelling, whilst working in the trenches near Ypres.
