Born and lived in Nottingham. Husband of Sarah Ann Finch of 16, Thoresby Avenue, Meadow Lane, Nottingham. He was a general labourer prior to enlisting on 4th September 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 34, during the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
