Private John Fewkes

Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Linton, Derbyshire. Son of John Charles Ayre Fewkes and Emma Fewkes nee Crossley of High Street, Linton. He was a coal miner at Netherseal Colliery, Derbyshire. He enlisted 26th January 1914 at Swadlincote, Derbyshire into the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, and was mobilised 28th August 1914. He went to France 25th February 1915. He was attached to the Brigade mining section, 17th March 1916 and was then attached to 180th Company Royal Engineers, 25th March 1916. He was killed in action 18th April 1916.
