Born and lived at Peak Dale, Derbyshire. Son of Uriah and Hannah Ferris, of Hill Top, Peak Dale. He was a rope runner prior to enlisting on 17th April 1912. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 12th February 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right thigh on 31st July 1916. Was treated at 20 Casualty Clearing Station Warlencourt, France and died, on 9th August 1916, aged 22, following amputation of his leg at No. 2 Canadian General Hospital Le Treport, France.
