Son of Albert and Amelia Fensom, of 59, Sedgley Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham. He was a Bricklayer prior to enlisting on 5th October 1914. He suffered gas poisoning on 14th October 1915, was treated at 58 Casualty Clearing station Lillers, France on 15th October 1915 and transferred to the St. John’s Ambulance Hospital at Etaples, France on 16th October 1915. He rejoined his battalion on 25th November 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 21, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
