Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and lived at 7 Poplar Avenue, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield. Son of William and Sarah Dove, of 48, Hector Street, Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was Taylor’s apprentice prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 19, during the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
