Private John Dilkes

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of John and Ann Dilkes, of 55, New Street, Hepthorne Lane, North Wingfield, Chesterfield. Was a coal miner prior to enlisting in April 1914 at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. He went to France on 11th December 1914 and was admitted No. 25 Field Ambulance 28th January 1915 with gunshot wounds to his abdomen received in action on the 27th. He was transported to the 6th Canadian General Hospital at Merville where he died of wounds on 4th February 1915, aged 21.
