Husband of Edith Elsie Dawes, of 9, Court B House, Chancel Street, Park, Sheffield, Yorkshire. He was a Coal Miner at Homewood Colliery prior to enlisting on 6th January 1902 at Chesterfield. He served in China from 8th December 1903 to 6th December 1904 and India, 12th December 1906 to 1st November 1910. He passes in Ambulance Duties on 20th September 1905.

He went to France on 10th October 1914 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 15th April 1915. He was killed action, 9th of May 1915, during the attack at Rouges Bancs, France.
