Captain William Rhys Lancelot Davis

Born 12th April 1896 at Hickley, Leicestershire. Son of Arthur Lancelot Davis and Agnes Anne Davis, of Bank Wood, Duffield, Derbyshire. He was a language student being educated at Temple Grove School, East Sheen, London,, Bedford Grammar School and Neuchatel, Switzerland. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters on 18th November 1914 and went to France on 20th December 1915 and joined the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, at Hooge, Belgium, on 26th December 1915. He was wounded on 16th February 1916 at Ypres, Belgium, and was promoted lieutenant on 8th July 1916 and Captain in 1917. He was killed in action, on 23rd April 1917, during the attack on Bayonet Trench, near Arras, France.
