He was born in Nottingham son of Jane Danby, of 59, Canal Street, Nottingham. He lived at 4 Prospect Place, Canal Street, Nottingham. He was a hawker prior to enlisting into the Special Reserve on 14th June 1908 at Chilwell Camp, Chilwell, Nottingham. He went to France on 27th January 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his chest on 15th March 1915. He died of the wounds, 30th March 1915, age 28, at No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, France.
