Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Arthur and Annie Dalton, of Cranmer House, Cranmer Grove, Nottingham. He was a machinery warehouseman in his father’s business prior to enlisting on 20th February 1913 at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his left foot on 31st May 1915. He was treated at No. 8 Casualty Clearing Station Bailleul, France and No. 11 General Hospital,m Boulogne, France, before rejoining his battalion on 1st July 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
