He was a coal miner at Summit Colliery, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire and enlisted at Mansfield, October 1914. Killed in action, 9th August 1915, age 31, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
