Born and lived at Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of Francis and Ellen Dakin, of 18, Coldwell Street, Wirksworth. He was a limestone quarry labourer prior to enlisting on 20th October 1914 at Wirksworth. He went to France on 28th June 1915 and was awarded the Good Conduct Badge, on 14th November 1916. He was killed in action, on 3rd October 1918, aged 32, in the attack at Ramicourt and Montbrehain, France.
