Son of Charles E. and Annie Daffen, of 29, Park Street, Worksop, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, Retford and Sheffield University and was commissioned into the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 3rd October 1914. He was killed in action in Dublin on 26th April 1916, aged 22, leading “B” Company in a charge across Mount Street Bridge to attack Clanwilliam House during the Irish Rebellion.
