Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of Elizabeth Kirk, of 20, Pipe Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. He enlisted ta Nottingham and served in Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, during 1915. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 12th August 1916, age 22, whilst in the line between Montauban and Longueval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
