Private Charles Edward Curley

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Derby. Son of James Charles and Hannah Elizabeth Curley, of 26, Chester Green Road, Derby. He was a grocer’s assistant prior to enlisting, 24th November 1915 at Derby into the 5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 26th February 1917 and was admitted to 48 Casualty Clearing Station at Bray-sur-Somme, 17th April 1917 suffering from dysentery. He was taken to No. 14 Stationary Hospital at Wimereux, 22nd April 1917. He was then transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick, 3rd May 1917. He returned to France on 19th March 1918 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 23rd March 1918. He was killed in action, 19th September 1918, aged 23, in the British attack on Holnon Village, France.
