Born and lived at New Whittington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Mary Sweeting, of 211, High Street, New Whittington, He was an iron pipe worker prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He was killed in action on 9th August 1915, aged 21, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
