Born at Brierfield, Burnley, Lancashire. Son fo Ellis and Mary Hannah Crowther, of 3 Berkley Street, Brierfield, Burnley, Lancashire. Husband of Ethel Crowther, of 54 Castle Street, Nelson, Lancashire. He was a manager at a printing works prior to enlisting at Nelson. He went to France on 18th October 1917 and was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regiment, 1st April 1918. He died of wounds on 18th April 1918, received in action during the German shelling of the trenches at Kemmel, Belgium.
