He was born at Long Eaton, Derbyshire and lived at Chilwell, Nottinghamshire. Son of Daniel and Mary, Crowston, of High Road, Old Chilwell. He was an iron moulder prior to enlisting, 10th December 1915, at Beeston, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 30th July 1917 and was posted to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 18th August 1917. He was killed in action, 26th September 1917, aged 19, during the attack on the German positions near St. Julian, Belgium.
