Private Ernest Crowder

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of William and Sarah Crowder, of 32 Ratcliffe Gate, Mansfield. Husband of Annie Crowder, of 107, Mosses Yard Ratcliffe Gate, Mansfield. He was a shoemaker prior to enlisting on 8th January 1900. He served in the South African campaign, from 1899 to 1902 and was discharged from military service on 7th January 1906. He re-enlisted in the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 18th April 1907 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 31st December 1915. He was killed in action, 23rd March 1918, during the German attack on the British lines near the Maricourt Road, near Albert, France.
