Private Albert Cox

Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Normanton, Derbyshire. Son of Charles and Jane Cox, of 8, Cockpit Hill, Derby. He was a Farm Labourer prior to enlisting on 19th January 1914. He went to France on 1st March 1915 and was admitted to the 2nd General Hospital at Le Havre, France suffering from Neurasthenia. He was sent to England on 29th December 1915 and was hospitalised from the 30th December 1915 to the 25th January 1916. He returned to France on 13th May 1916 and was killed in action on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Buried: Bienvillers Military Cemetery, France. Plot 21, Row H, Grave 12.
