Sergeant Charles Cowie

Battalion: 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born 8th September 1879 at Bradford, Yorkshire. Son of William and Annie, of 13 Trafalgar Street, Manningham, Bradford. He lived at 12 Darrel Road, Retford, Nottinghamshire and was a fish salesman prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915 at Retford. He went to France on 16th July 1916 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 22nd September 1916 and promoted Corporal, 6th November 1916. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 20th December 1916 and promoted to Sergeant on 27th March 1917. He was killed in action, 20th September 1917, in the attack near Klein-Zillebeke, near Ypres, Belgium.
