Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of William and Betsey Cotton, of 95 Carlton Road, Nottingham.Husband of Florrie Cotton, of 2, Burrows Gardens, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting in 1894 at Derby. He served In The Tirah Expedition from 1897 to 1898. Cyrpus 3rd March 1899 till 23rd December 1899, Malta 24th December 1899 to the 17th May 1900. The South African Campaign, 18th May 1900 to 26th October 1902. After completion of military service, he was discharged on 15th November 1906. He re-enlisted on 23rd January 1907 at Chilwell and went to France on 11th November 1914. He was admitted to No.12 General Hospital, Rouen, suffering from bronchitis, on 9th February 1915 and was transferred to England, 19th February 1915. He died of cancer on 16th July 1919, aged 42.
