Son of David and Hannah Cottingham, of 153, Logan Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. Husband of Edith Cottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France on 13th November 1917 and was posted to the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 16th November 1917 and to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 19th November 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
