Lance Corporal Leonard Cosway

Battalion: 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Stapleford, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Elizabeth A. Cosway, of 25, Eaton’s Lane, Stapleford. He was a scavenger (street cleaner) prior to enlisting at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He went to France on 13th October 1915 and was killed in action, 16th January 1916, during the German shelling of the B Company billets, in the Hospital area at Ypres.
Buried: Menin Road South Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 1. Row C. Grave 6.

His stepson Private Arthur Henry Cavey, 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), also fell in the Great War.
