Private Joseph Coombes

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Jack and Emma Coombes, of 70 Dunkirk Road, Dunkirk, Nottingham; husband of Alice Mary Neal (formerly Coombes), of 35, Park Street, New Lenton, Nottingham. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 2nd December 1903 at Nottingham. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and died on 25th December 1914, aged 35, from gunshot wounds and a fractured skull, at Enghien, Belgium, whilst a prisoner of war.
Buried: Enghien (Edingen) Communal Cemetery, Belgium. On the Northside of the path, due East of the Chapel.
