Born at Nottingham and lived at 89 Hunger Hill Road, Nottingham. Son of William and Amy Cooke, of 120 Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham. He was a painter prior to enlisting 21st May 1913 at Nottingham. He went to France 28th February 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal, 14th March 1915. He was mentioned in despatches, 30th November 1915 for gallantry and distinguished service in the field. He died at 46 Field Ambulance, 8th September 1915, aged 20, of gunshot wounds to both legs.
