Son of Henry William and Anna Cooke, of Mill House, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. His father owned a cotton mill on Reform Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth Boys Grammar School, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and became a bank clerk. He died 22nd August 1917.
