Born at Peterborough and lived at Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Son of Charles Henry and Sophia Compton, of 12 Bennett Street, Long Eaton. Husband of Sarah Annie Compton, of 11 Kirkwhite Avenue, Long Eaton. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 29th May 1913 at Long Eaton. He went to France 1st March 1915 and was killed in action, 25th March 1916, when the Germans exploded a mine under the British line and attacked at Berlencourt, France.
