Born at Gunthorpe, Norfolk. Son of Daniel and Catherine Colman of Spalding Lane, Swanton Novers, Norfolk. He was a farm wagoner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He died of wounds, 31st October 1916.

His brother Corporal Robert Nicholas Colman, 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
