Born and lived at Leigh, Lancashire. Son of Thomas Coan of 24, St. Thomas Street, Leigh, Lancashire. He enlisted at Leigh and was killed in action, 4th October 1917, with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, during the attack near Poelcappelle, Belgium.
Buried : Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 59. Row E. Grave 7.
