Battalion : 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of William and Hannah Clifton, of Newthorpe Common, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 28th February 1916 at Hucknall. He went to France 9th July 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to his head 9th August 1916 and gunshot wounds to his legs 7th September 1916. He was killed in action 9th October 1916, in teh attack on the Schwaben Redoubt near Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
