Born at Barton in Fabis, Leicestershire. Son of William and Eliza Clifford. Husband of Emma Clifford, of 33, Hay Street, New Sawley, Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire. He was a locomotive works labourer prior to enlisting 11th September 1914 at Derby. He went to France 17th February 1915 and was killed in action, 12th March 1915, age 43, during the counter attack by the Germans at Neuve Chapelle, France.
