Corporal Sydney William Clements

Battalion: 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Claypole, Nottinghamshire. Son of Annie Clements. Husband of Rebecca Helen Clements of Upton, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting 29th May 1915 at Nottingham. He trained as a machine gunner and went to France 6th March 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal 2nd October 1916 and promoted Corporal 10th March 1917. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his chest 29th June 1917 and was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Peiter de Connick, 10th August 1917. He was treated at reading war hospital, 11th August 1917 to the 1st October 1917. He returned to France 4th December 1917 and was killed in action21st March 1916 whilst holding the line near Sorrell Wood/Longeuval, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
