Battalion: 1/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of Joseph Francis and Mary Clay, of Smedley Street, Matlock. Husband of Margaret Street, of Smedley Street, Matlock. He was a gas fitter for Matlock and District gas company prior to enlisting on 5th July 1911 at Matlock. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in an explosion, 29th January 1917. whilst attached to the 2nd Army Workshops, Hazebrouck, Belgium.
Buried: Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, France. Plot 1, Row C. Grave 17.
