Son of William and Sarah Ann Clarke, of New Chester Street, Derby. He was a brewery labourer prior to enlisting at Derby. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 32, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
