Born and lived at Whitwell, Derbyshire. Son of Frank and Rosina Clarke, of 1, Victoria Terrace, Whitwell. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting 12th March 1917 at Chesterfield. Derbyshire. He went to France 14th June 1917 and was killed in action, 14th August 1917, aged 21, during a raid on German trenches near Philosophe, France.
