Born at Kirkby in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Mary Clarke, of 8, Austin Street, Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting 10th December 1914 at Mansfield. He went to France 29th August 1915, suffered gunshot wounds to his head 15th February 1916 and died, 16th February 1916, age 21, at No. 10 General Hospital, Camieres, France.
