Born and lived in Keighley, Yorkshire. Son of Francis and Mary Clarke, of 83, Leeds Street, Keighley. He was a wool comber prior to enlisting on 18th January 1917 at Keighley. He went to France on 22nd January 1918 and suffered gunshot wounds on 23rd March 1918. He was admitted to No. 2 Canadian Hospital, Le Treport, France and was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick, 30th March 1918. He returned to France on 28th June 1918 and died of wounds on 6th October 1918, aged 19, at 30 Casualty Clearing Station, France.
