Born at Ailsworth, Peterborough. Son of George and Lilly Clarke, of Sutton Wandsworth, Northamptonshire. Husband of Emma Clarke, of 89 Park Street, New Lenton, Nottingham. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting on 22nd August 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 9th February 1916 and died of gunshot wounds to his thigh at No. 1 Casualty Clearing Station, Chocques, France, 28th August 1916.
