Private Fred Clarke

Battalion : 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Woodside, Hertfordshire. Son of George and Ruth Clarke, of 37 Cowpen Street, Luton, Bedfordshire. Husband of Ethel Clarke, of 10 Blythe Place, Luton. He was a fruiterers salesman prior to enlisting on 10th July 1916 into the 7th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment at Bedford. He went to France on 25th November 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder, 3rd May 1917. He was treated at 55 Field Ambulance and transferred to 32 Casualty Clearing Station at Warlincourt, France. He was sent to England on Hospital Ship St. Andrew 9th May 1917/ He returned to France 6th April 1918 and died of gas wounds at 2nd Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, France, 19th August 1918.
