Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Edward and Martha Clarke, of 20, Lavender Street, Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham. he was an ale brewer prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was awarded the Military Medal London Gazetted date 2nd November 1917. He was killed in action, 25th August 1917, during a German attack on the Knoll near Lempire, France.
