Born at Baston, Lincolnshire. and lived at Rectory Farm, West Deeping Peterborough. Son of Mary Clarke, of Baston; Husband of Freda Clarke, of Baston. He was a Horse Keeper prior to enlisting on 19th January 1916 at Market Deeping. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. 12th June 1916. He went to France on 23rd May 1917, suffered shrapnel wounds to his chest, on 21st July 1917 and died of wounds, on 2nd August 1917, aged 23, at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Siding, Belgium.
