Private Harold Edwin Chew

Battalion : 2/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Hull. Son of William Harold and Minnie Chew, of 16, Russell Terrace, Norfolk Street, Hull. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 1st March 1916 at Hull. He went to France on 17th May 1917 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his thigh and gas poisoning on 23rd September 1917. He was admitted to 37 Casualty Clearing Station, Godewaersvelde, Belgium and transferred to 14 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France, on 25th September 1917. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Jan Breydel, 26th September 1917. On recovery, he returned to France on 24th March 1918 and was killed in action, 18th April 1918, age 20, in the German attack at Kemmel, Belgium.
